• Jackal PDW & Kompakt 92: Enhanced for medium-range battles, making them more competitive.

Scorestreak Adjustments
• UAVs and Counter UAVs: Buffed health for longer-lasting impact.
• Napalm Strike & Strategic Bomber: Explosion radius and fly-in speed increased for more intense results.

The recent announcement of a paid audio upgrade for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has sparked mixed reactions among players. In first-person shooters like Call of Duty, audio accuracy is key, helping players detect enemy positions through subtle sound cues. Gamers already invest in high-end headsets to gain a competitive edge, often optimizing settings like Loudness Equalization for clearer sound details. Now, Black Ops 6 aims to enhance this even further with new, customizable audio profiles—but not without a price tag.
Enhanced Audio for a Competitive Edge?
Black Ops 6 has teamed up with audio tech company Embody to introduce an "Advanced Headphone" mode. This mode will prioritize key in-game sounds, helping players better pinpoint enemy locations. There’s a free, default audio upgrade available for all players, but a premium, personalized audio profile is also offered for $20. Using Embody’s Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) technology, the profile customizes audio based on the player’s unique head and ear shape, delivering a spatial audio experience tailored specifically to them.
How Does the Paid Audio Profile Work?
On October 14, Activision announced that players could enhance their directional audio accuracy through Embody’s “Immerse Spatial Audio” tech, designed to maximize perception with headphones. While Black Ops 6 provides an Enhanced Headphone mode by default, players can upgrade further by activating the personalized HRTF profile. After a 30-day free trial, the premium profile costs $20 for a five-year license.
Is Paid Audio an Advantage?
The effectiveness of the Advanced Headphone mode in giving players an edge remains uncertain, but the technology has been described as “the gold standard” for directional perception. This puts the paid profile in a similar category to services like Dolby Atmos, which offers enhanced audio across multiple platforms for a $10 fee. However, since Embody’s package is specifically tuned for Black Ops 6, it may offer even greater precision in that game compared to general audio upgrades.
Is HRTF the Future of Competitive Audio?
For PC gamers already using Loudness Equalization, the advanced HRTF profile might be a substantial step forward. Whether this feature will introduce a “pay-to-win” element in multiplayer will depend on how much of an impact this tailored audio truly has. Players can test it out during the free trial to see if it’s worth the investment, but for now, Black Ops 6's new audio feature certainly pushes the boundaries of audio immersion in FPS gaming.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter, developed by Electronic Arts and Danger Close Games, is a first-person shooter released in 2012. Serving as a sequel to the acclaimed "Medal of Honor" (2010), Warfighter returns players to the world of modern combat, exploring missions through the eyes of Tier 1 Operators from renowned groups such as JTF2, SOG, SEALs, and SAS.
Campaign
In Warfighter's campaign, players embark on global operations spanning Somalia, Pakistan, and the Philippines, offering some geographic diversity. However, the storyline is succinct, clocking in at just four hours compared to its predecessor's six in "Battlefield 3". The narrative follows Thomas "Preacher" Walker from the previous Medal of Honor installment, delving into his post-Afghanistan life struggles, which touch on poignant themes of family and military service. Despite attempts to address these complex issues, the campaign falls short in execution, though it maintains continuity with characters from its predecessor.
Visuals and Graphics
Powered by the "Frostbite 2.0" engine, renowned for its graphical prowess in titles like Battlefield 1 and Anthem, Warfighter boasts visuals that were ahead of its time in 2012 and still hold up well today. The game particularly shines in missions involving Apache helicopters, showcasing stunning visual fidelity.
Multiplayer
Warfighter's multiplayer mode allows players to embody operators from various national special operations units across six distinct classes. With ten maps available, including two inspired by the film "Zero Dark Thirty", multiplayer offers robust customization options for weapons and includes diverse game modes such as Team Deathmatch, Sector Control, and Combat Mission. This aspect of the game has been praised for its depth and competitive edge, offering more customization than traditional titles like Call of Duty.
Classes
Players can choose from six classes, each with unique abilities tailored to different playstyles. Options range from Assaulters with grenade launcher abilities to Snipers capable of scanning targets for their team, providing versatility and strategic depth.
Summary
Medal of Honor: Warfighter's legacy is mixed; while its multiplayer was acclaimed for innovation and depth, the campaign fell short of expectations. Controversies marred its development and post-launch period, though it persisted as a significant non-VR entry in the Medal of Honor series until server shutdown in February 2023.
Pros:
• Incorporation of real-world veteran input during development
• Ahead-of-its-time multiplayer mechanics akin to modern titles
• Inclusion of international special operations units, a series first
Cons:
• Disappointing single-player campaign
• Servers no longer active as of February 2023
• Controversies throughout its lifecycle
Medal of Honor: Warfighter remains a notable entry in gaming history, remembered for both its achievements and shortcomings, reflecting its era in FPS gaming.

I am a CoD nerd of the highest order, there I admitted it. It is a heavy cross to bear especially for a man of my years with 20 years (give or take) of CoD highs (original MW2, Black Ops) and the incredible lows (Advanced Warfare anyone?).
I have seen every release of the huge empire that is CoD and have experienced every step of the franchises evolution from map packs to customisable skins and prestige system to battle pass. Some good, some bad and some clearly just about money and pandering to a probably too young client base (stupid skins I'm looking at you)
One thing that has definitely changed and I think impacted the game on Xbox in particular is the development of SBMM. Whilst on the surface the idea of pitching you against equally competent players sounds like a great idea in reality it has become a fun vacuum with every game being overshadowed by being placed in foreign lobbies and invariably against level 7 PC players running the latest wall hacks and aim bots. Why does this even exist? Surely connection should be king? A recent article from the developers claimed it was but it simply isn't true. Let me give you an example.
I play mainly Domination (the game mode of the gods) with my good friend Powell. We are similar skill levels and as such when we search for lobbies our instant "ping" rating starts in the mid 30's and works its' way up from there. On its this means nothing until we jump in a lobby with another KGK member, (who won't mind me saying is a lower skill level in CoD), Deadshot, and with him being host every lobby search starts at around 15ms. This is a blatant attempt to handicap the better player. We get UK lobbies and the whole experience is far more enjoyable.
To additionally quantify this my K/D has dropped from around 5 on the original MW2 to 1.5 on the current version. The maps are similar, the guns are similar, the time to kill is similar and yes I am a little older and slower but not to this extent. I remember regular 100 kill plus games on Afghan etc now it is an exceptional game to get 40 kills.
Don't get me started on cross play with PC hacking scum bags.
I'd love to know your experience and thoughts?

The 19th November saw the 25th anniversary of Valve releasing what was and is a gaming masterpiece that really defined an age of 3d gaming and the move to dedicated 3d graphics cards. I remember playing this in software mode and then enabling 3d effects on my brand new 3dfx Voodoo 3 3500 gpu with a whopping 16mb of onboard memory and it was a game changer. The incredibly successful Half Life was followed up with a number of expansion packs and then the phenomenally impressive Half Life 2 that has to be on the list of the best games ever made.
Valve has a documentary with the development team to mark this milestone and if you are interested you can see it here
